Mechanical Systems Technician

SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Mechanical Shop Manager, the Mechanical Systems Technician works to, assemble, install, debug, and troubleshoot various types of industrial equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Read and interpret assembly blueprints or specifications manuals and plan assembly or building operations.

  • Has an understanding of the build process and how to make minor mechanical changes as needed

  • Position or align components for assembly, manually or using hoists or lifts 

  • Lay out drill, ream, tap, or cut parts for assembly. 

  • Set up and operate metalworking machines, such drills, grinders, saws, hammer drills, etc. 

  • Understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics 

  • Measure and layout floor plans for systems using mathematics as needed 

  • Verify conformance of parts using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, or micrometers. 

  • Work both independently and as part of a project team. 

  • Must have own set of tools 

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends is required 

  • Travel is required 

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education/Experience 

  • High school diploma and 3 years of related experience and/or training 

  • Courses toward a recognized technical training program

Language Skills 

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.  

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and instruction/procedure manuals.  Ability to write correspondences and routine reports.  

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information one on one and in group situations to customers, clients, vendors and other employees within the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

  • Ability to measure and calculate in inches, tenths and millimeters.

​

Reasoning Skills 

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  

  • Professionally to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Efficiently interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Technology Skills 

  • Requires the ability to operate a wide variety of standard office equipment, such as a computer and keyboard, a calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, etc. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
