THE FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING
Midwest Engineered Systems Inc. is one of many companies that has taken initiative to open their doors to high school students and educate them about computer science, engineering and other skilled trades that are vital to the manufacturing industry.
On Wednesday, March 8th, 2017, the 8th grade Lake Country School, Robotics Team 9956 “The Knack”, got the opportunity to tour Midwest Engineered Systems 100,000 ft2 corporate headquarters to see projects first hand. MWES tours are aimed to help students understand the variety of careers that exist in engineering and manufacturing today in hopes to inspire eager minds and help students determine a career path after school.
While being shown the facility students observe projects that demonstrate Press Brake Automation, Web Handling, Welding, Assembly Line solutions as well as an overview of the manufacturing projects. All projects that involve mechanical/electrical engineering, automation technicians, control system engineers, mechanical/electrical technicians.
These bright minded students are already putting their knowledge of robotics and engineering to the test in 2016-2017 FIRST Tech Challenge. The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) challenges teams through out the states to build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.
While visiting MWES, the Knack team demonstrated their robot that recently set a new state record at the FTC Velocity Vortex Missouri State Qualifying Match and won the team the Inspire Award. Click to watch recap of the event.
As they move forward in the competition, MWES wants to wish the best of luck to the Knack team as they head to Super Regionals in Iowa at the end of the month.
